At what age can my child start learning to swim?

Children of the Sea begins lessons for children as young as four months, however, we do allow infants as young as one month old to attend our Baby Open Swim on Friday afternoons.  A person is never too old to learn to swim.

How long are your classes and what is the cost?

Classes are 30 minutes long, once a week. Some parents choose to attend classes more than once a week.  Cost for group lessons is $14.00 per class, with a $5.00 per student, per session registration fee. We also offer private classes for $50.00 per student and semi-private classes for $25.00 per student

Can I purchase an interrupted or split session?

No. We run four sessions a year: Winter Session is January, February and March; Spring Session is April, May and June; Summer Session is July and August; Fall Session is September, October, November and December. Children of the Sea reserves a space for your child, alone, and as such, cannot resell parts of a session to another student. If space is available, you can register after a session has begun for the remainder of the session, but you cannot split a session.

What times of day are classes held?

Classes begin as early at 8:00 a.m. and last as late as 8:00 p.m. Seven days a week. Our hours are 8:30am till 8pm Monday thru Friday, Saturday and Sunday we are open 8am till 4:30pm. Check our schedule for time and availability of a specific class. Children of the Sea provides a flexible, wide choice of classes to meet every busy schedule.

How big is your pool and how warm is it?

The Children of the Sea pool is 4 feet deep by 18 feet wide by 43 feet long. The pool is maintained at a constant 91 degrees and the enclosed pool area is kept at 92 degrees for class comfort.

How fast will my child learn?

Children progress at their own pace, which is the underlying premise of the Children of the Sea Water Safe Program. We bring students along according to their own learning readiness.

How do I know in what level my child should register?

You will be asked a few simple questions to determine where your child should be placed in our Water Safe Program.

How often should my child take classes?

A minimum of once per week is essential for swim learning progress. More than one lesson per week is available.

Is once a week enough for proficiency?

Yes, but practice at home is great reinforcement of learned skills.

Does my child need to wear a special diaper, if not potty trained?

Yes, children who are not potty trained must wear a washable swim diaper under their swimsuits. Washable swim diapers are available from our swim store.

Does my child need swim goggles or other swim gear for classes?

Children of the Sea provides the necessary goggles and fins for every student. If children wish to have their own goggles, a wide variety is available from our swim store.

Is there a place where I can watch my child learn to swim?

Children of the Sea provides an air-conditioned observation room for parents, family and friends.

Do you provide day care at Children of the Sea?

No, but our enclosed, air-conditioned observation room is filled with a variety of toys to entertain your children while you observe swim lessons.

What are the teacher's qualifications at Children of the Sea?

First and foremost, Children of the Sea swim instructors have a love of working with children. Every instructor goes through a four to eight week training period. They learn our Water Safe Program, techniques, and philosophy from our Pool Manager and Lead Instructor.

Should we keep our children in year-round lessons?

Yes. A consistent swim lesson routine provides for greater retention, builds motor- sensory skills and promotes high self-esteem at an early age. The auto immune system is also enhanced by year-round swimming. Water is a user-friendly environment for all ages and provides an exercise medium which develops physical fitness with little risk of injury. Swim lessons provide the opportunity for a younger child to participate at the same level as an older child. Children of the Sea offers a year-round program and encourages swimming at least once a week.

Why should I choose Children of the Sea?

Children of the Sea provides your children with an activity which develops lifetime skills through a unique Water Safe Program not duplicated in any other facility. All of us at the school take learning to swim very seriously. We keep the learning process enjoyable, but are ever aware of the importance in encouraging children to become water safe. The swimming lessons for which you are making today's sacrifices and fitting into your busy schedules are truly a "Gift for Life."

Can I sign up after the session has already begun?

ABSOLUTELY! Our school is open year-round, with 4 sessions a year (Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter) all of which run concurrently. Although our lessons are year-round, anyone can sign up for any on going class at anytime. We will simply pro-rate any missed lessons and credit them toward your total.

What if my child accomplishes the goals of the class before the end of the session?

Any child who meets the goals of the class two weeks consecutively may be promoted with the recommendation of their teacher at no charge.

What happens if my class is canceled?

If ever there is an accident in the pool, and State Health Department Guidelines force us to cancel, we call you as soon as we know that your class is canceled. We will always credit these missed lessons to your account, and these credits can be used toward your next registration or for any of our store products.

When it comes time for registration, how will I know what level to sign my child up for?

Halfway through each session we have "Mid-Session Update/Level Recommendation Week." At the end of each class during this week, your instructor will let you know what skills are being worked on, and what level to sign up for next session.

Should I tell my friends about Children of the Sea?

OF COURSE! We have a referral program. For every student you refer, you will receive a $50 credit on your account that can be put towards future registration or any of our store products and services.
