| Meet Our Staff
Dear Children of the Sea Parents, Students, and Friends:
I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to all
of you entering our Children of the Sea Water Safe Program and
to extend a very warm welcome to our new and returning swim
families. Let me give you a little information regarding my
swim-teaching background.
I am Lynne, owner and director of Children of the Sea. Let me
share with you a little about my swim teaching credentials. I
moved to Hawaii in 1975, where I was the first female lifeguard on
the beach of Waikiki. I was proud to have broken ground for
females to join the ranks. I made several life-threatening rescues
and received a citation from Mayor Fasi. I participated in
triathlons, Century bike rides, and the Waikiki Rough Water Swim.
I graduated from the University of Hawaii in 1978 with a
Recreation Degree- I figured I was going to enjoy my life by
working with children and animals. I volunteered at Sea Life Park for eight years, where I helped
train dolphins and sea lions and conducted Education Department
lectures for school-age children. I taught swimming at city and
county pools from 1982 to 1990. In 1982, I started Keiki Kai
(which means Children of the Sea in Hawaiian) where I taught
private lessons at my home. It was there that I began to develop
the individual-paced teaching philosophy of what is today’s
Children of the Sea Water Safe Program. I am an active member of
the National Swim School Association. My staff and I would love to
introduce your child to the joys of swimming and the security of
water safety.

AJ
Hi, I'm Teacher AJ and I'm a lead instructor and CPO for
Children of the Sea. Along with teaching swim classes I also
maintain the pool's mechanics and chemicals. I am originally from New
England, where I spent many summers swimming on the coasts of Cape
Cod and Boston's North Shore. I moved to Portland after
receiving my degree in education from the University of Vermont in
the spring of 2005. While living in Vermont, I worked as a
lifeguard and an athletic coordinator.
Working at Children of the Sea is great for me because I love
swimming and I really enjoy working with kids of all ages.
In my spare time I enjoy, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, hiking, playing Frisbee golf and darts,
and hanging out with my friends. See you all in the pool!
Sarah
Hello! My name is Sarah and I have been a proud member of the
COTS staff for two years. I am currently the PM Aquatic Lead and
one of our swim instructors.
From the beginning I was a water child. I started lessons at
the age of three and started swim team at the age of eight. I swam
competitively for 10 years - my favorite being the butterfly!
When I'm not at the pool I love hanging out with good friends
and my two Chihuahuas, Miko and Keiser. I'd also love to spend
time getting to know you - so stop by the office and say "Hi"!!
Wendy
Hi – I am Wendy: I’m a swim instructor and golf instructor and
really enjoy it. I have 11 years experience working in preschools,
and three years experience teaching swim lessons. As my own three
children grew up I missed being around little kids, and as I’m
sure you know, there are plenty of little ones to go around at
Children of the Sea, so here I am. This is a fantastic facility
and I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible!
Tiffany
Hi, my name is Tiffany and I am very excited to be working here
at Children of the Sea. I lived a majority of my life down south
in the waters of Santa Cruz, California where I have been surfing
since I was five years old. I spent a lot of my summers being a
surf instructor for young people at day camps on the local beaches
of Santa Cruz. At the age of 17 I became an active competitor
surfing up and down the California Coast. Later on I ventured out
to different surf spots as far as Australia competing in the surf
network. After having my beautiful daughter, Kaylyn in Seaside,
Oregon, I found myself in love with the Portland area and made the
big move here to stay. I am looking forward to getting to know you
and helping your children enjoy the fun of swimming.
Courtney
Hi everyone! My name is Courtney and I have worked here at the
front desk of Children of the Sea for over two years. I am
currently finishing up my Associates degree at PCC and look
forward to transferring to PSU next year. I just got married in
August 2007 and love to spend time with my husband Robert and his
son Ryan. In my spare time I love to go to Disneyland, go ice
skating, watch movies, and spend time with friends and family.
Also, our beagle puppy keeps me very busy. It's so much fun
working here and I can't wait to meet all of you.
Tracy
Hey swimmers! SPLASH!! That's the sound I hear all day
while I'm working at the front desk here at COTS.
My name is Tracy and I enjoy working with all the families that
attend our school. I have to say I am very fortunate to work with
such an amazing staff and fabulous patrons. Everyday I wake up
with a smile on my face because I get to spend my day with such
wonderful people. In my spare time I like to work out. go camping,
hangout with friends, and travel. I look forward to meeting you
and your family.
Sierra
Hi! My name is Sierra and I am happy to have joined the staff here
at Children of the Sea. I was born and raised in Oregon and have
lived here almost all of my life. I lived in Tampa, Florida for a
few years and I graduated from the University of South Florida in
2002 with my B.S. in English Education. I came from a very large
family, six kids and two sets of twins. I took swim lessons all
through my childhood and it is my love for the water and my love
for children that has brought me to this school. In my spare time,
what little there is of it, I love reading, rafting, spending time
with family and friends, and just being outdoors.
