About Children of the Sea Swim School Staff

Lynne

Hi Everyone! I am Lynne Zavrski, owner of Children of the Sea Swim School. In 1975, I moved to Hawaii, where I was the first female lifeguard on the beach of Waikiki. Breaking ground for females to join the ranks; and awarded a citation by Mayor Fasi for my life threatening rescues.

I’ve participated in triathlons, Century bike rides, and the 2.4 mile ocean swim race of Waikiki Rough Water Swim. Eight years was dedicated to help train dolphins, sea lions, and conducting lectures within the Education Department for school age children with Sea Life Park in Waimanalo, Hawaii. From 1978 to 1981 I was often found teaching children how to swim in city and county pools within the Oahu area.

Keiki Kai (Children of the Sea in Hawaiian) started with me teaching private lessons in my backyard pool. Here is where I developed the individual-paced teaching philosophy of what is today’s Children of the Sea Water Safety Program. In July 1996, I decided to bring my knowledge and methods to the mainland, and Children of the Sea officially opened in Portland, Oregon. It is a great love and delight being able to introduce children to the joys of swimming.

Hi, my name is Geri and I am a swim instructor here at COTS. My family moved to Portland from the East Coast two years ago. I was a lifeguard and swim instructor for the American Red Cross. When not in or around the pool, I enjoy reading, playing tennis, running, and spending time with my family.
